In this scenario, a somatic therapist had been practicing somatic therapy and attachment-focused work in Capitol Hill, Seattle for three years. Their practice was respected within the local therapist community — colleagues referred their overflow clients to them, and those clients often referred friends. But the pipeline was maddeningly inconsistent.
Some months they had a full caseload and turned people away. Otheir months, 3–4 slots sat empty for weeks, and there was nothing they could do to fill them. They had no Google presence, no Business Profile, and no way to generate consistent new client flow independently of otheir people's goodwill and timing.
Their website existed but had never been optimized for anything. They came to MindRank wanting one thing: predictable, consistent client flow that didn't depend on whether a colleague happened to refer someone that week.
The challenge with somatic therapy is that many potential clients don't know to search for it. They search "therapist Seattle," "anxiety therapist Capitol Hill," or "trauma counselor Seattle" — and then learn about somatic approaches through content. The SEO strategy had to meet clients where they were searching, not where we wished they'd search.
We built a two-layer strategy: one layer targeting broad anxiety/trauma searches where clients were already looking, and a second layer educating those clients about somatic therapy through content — turning awareness into bookings.
Targeted the terms clients were actually searching: "therapist Capitol Hill Seattle," "anxiety therapist Seattle," "trauma therapist Seattle WA," "nervous system therapy Seattle," and 9 related terms. Created optimized pages for each. These are the top-of-funnel searches where potential clients begin their therapist search — and where their competitors already had footholds, so we built pages that were meaningfully better.
Published 5 pieces of educational content: "what is somatic therapy and how does it work," "somatic therapy vs talk therapy — key differences," "how body-based therapy helps with trauma," "finding a somatic therapist in Seattle," and "nervous system regulation — what therapy can help." These pieces ranked for somatic-specific searches and converted readers into inquiries.
Built GBP with Capitol Hill as primary location, broader Seattle metro as service area. Optimized for somatic therapy, attachment therapy, and nervous system regulation keywords. Set up weekly GBP posts explaining somatic approaches — building awareness and credibility with anyone who found their GBP listing.
Set up their website to better capture referral traffic too — a dedicated "working with referrals" section and clear intake process descriptions. Their referring colleagues were already sending traffic; now the website converted it much more effectively. Referral intake calls shortened from 20 minutes to 8 minutes on average because clients arrived better informed.
The two-layer strategy worked as intended. Broad keywords brought discovery-phase clients to their site; educational content educated them about somatic therapy and positioned this therapist as the clear specialist; a strong GBP built map pack visibility for local searches. Three to five new Google-originated clients per month became the new floor — predictable, reliable, and growing.
The phrase they used after month 4: "I stopped checking my phone every morning hoping a colleague had sent someone." Google became a predictable floor that their referral network now adds to, rather than the only source of growth they had no control over. They have raised their rates twice since starting — because a full caseload gives you leverage.
GBP created and verified. 5 service pages published. 2 somatic education blog posts live. Citation building begun across 36 directories. Website technical audit complete — 9 issues resolved. First time the site had any local SEO infrastructure at all.
Site enters top 30 for 4 broad therapy keywords. GBP views up significantly. 3 more blog posts published. "What is somatic therapy" piece ranks on page 2 for its primary keyword. First 3 organic inquiries arrive — all came from the educational content, not service pages.
